Does anyone have an understanding of what the design values would be for a steel eye and hook. I am considering using this connection in a timber truss where the bottom chord is spit in two pieces with a steel rod and plates connecting the bottom chord. At the center of the steel rod is the eye and hook connection.

The steel eye and hook I am considering is 1" diameter thick and is 6" in diameter.

Thanks for your help."

Are going to use a lag eye bolt and screw it into the top chord?

I suspect that this idea won't get past the Code Enforcement Office.

I don't like it myself, all of the eggs are in one basket.

I am not sure of the application or suitability. However, if you want to check Thread 507-238156, it may provide a link to information about such connectors, wire rope etc.
