There is a warehouse who's roof is significantly deflected (due to large amounts of snow) and I'd like to not go back inside to identify the steel roof joists. The building is currently evacuated due to the roof deflection.

Here is a photo of a tag from the bar joists:

As best as I can read it says:

MACONDER-ALLSPAN
C 28423 RED
826A 40 4 A

Anyone have any idea what brand or any information that would be helpful? The building is built around the 1950s. Thanks!

I think you're looking at Macomber not Maconder. Then I would be looking at the span and depths for the original design level loading. It should get you close.

Looks pretty similar to some joists I encountered in the field not to long ago. 99% certain these are Macomber steel joists. If a quick internet search doesn't do you any good I have some old catalogs handy from around that period.

Awesome! It was hard to read the first several letters, thanks!

Time to do some digging. The tag doesn't seem to match up with the 1970s manuals. But, I have a great start! Thanks again.

I typically find that the joist size isn't listed on the tag. It's usually just reference numbers on the shop drawing. If the manufacturer is still in business, you can try contacting them for information (if they still have the records). If they are still in business and they have records that go back far enough, they sometimes try to charge a small fee to pull the records out of storage and scan them. In my opinion the small fee is worth it and I pass it along to the client.

You can also contact SJI and get a general idea of what you might have. https://steeljoist.org/joist-investigation-form/
