Hey all

i'm a new graduate of mechanical engineer. now i'm working in a consultants company. quite often, we are dealing with steam line. but we don't have a professional mechanical designer specializing in steam line design. We have to pass our design to another company, which costs heaps.

i'm very kin to learn steam line design. can anyone give me some advise? is there a good reference book in terms of steam line design?

thanks

I would suggest using the reference below

ASME B31.1 Power piping Code.

Within B31.1 there are further references to review regarding hangers, etc.

I want to caution you that you cannot learn this on your own regardless of how many books you review. You need to partner with an experienced engineering firm and learn on the job.

Since you are using another company for steam line design, I would spend time reviewing their specifications and calculations. As a client paying for such service, you should be entitled to their calculations.

Main sticking point will be thermal growth. Pay close attention to how the pipe supports are configured and where the restraints and anchors are placed. And ask LOTS of questions.
