STAAD.etc - Just got it and...

I've got the US(imp) 4.0 module only. I'm checking out the combined footing module. I would like to validate the program for my boss with a few examples from various textbooks.

The problem is, none of the example problems I have seem to match up with the program's reuqired input. OK, most of the input is matter-of-fact, but the module will kick back an error message and not complete a run unless there's an amount of soil above the footing, and there are dead and live load surcharges. I tried a couple of text examples (Teng, Gaylord & Gaylord, etc.) but it looks like both of those don't have any soil above the footing, not to they include soil surcharges on the footing.

I haven't been able to match up any example problems with the program and am pretty miffed. The example problem included with the program includes the soil and surcharges, though.

Any suggestions/recommendations/etc. are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Oops, just proofed it... should be "...nor do they include..." not "not to they include..."

Since the company issued the program with minimal documentation and perhaps not the best tutorials, I figured that I'd try to utilize the knowledge base comprising this forum. Guess I was wrong in that. Thanks for the tip, I will remember in the future how I was welcomed here.

Thanks for the info Vooter. I didn't know this problem because always used this software with soil above the foundation and dead/live loads applieds. I was checking the software and found that you can run it using very low values for soil depth, dead load and live load (I used 0.00001) and the software ran. It's true. When I bought the software, four years ago, I didn't receive a manual copy. The help option provided is very poor.
