I have an existing unsprinkled 5 story high rise 30' away from a new 8 story high rise (to be constructed). the existing 5 story bldg is Assembly and is a concrete structure. the new const is IA(332) healthcare -the only place I am touching the existing building is at the open air loading dock and an open air plaza at grade. i do not diminish the fire safety of the existing facility, nor does the adjacent building result in an increase in the required minimum number of separate means of egress. In addition, IBC states that portions of the structure not altered and not affected by the alteration are not required to comply with the code requirements for a new structure. The question is do i need to sprinkle the existing conc bldg for some strange reason?

I can't find anything related to a minimum distance requirement that I must stay away from the existing building to avoid having to sprinkle it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated
thx

It's an existing building and so long as it complies with IBC Chapter 34, automatic sprinkler protection would not be required.
