Hey,

Does anyone know where I can find any good online references for the design of spread footing piles (i.e. piles with increased end bearing due to a larger diameter at the base)?

It would be most appreciated!

Thank ya

I think you can do a search with the words "pile" & "bell" as search criteria.

There was an Eng-Tips thread on this topic which may help:

You can also do the search that kslee suggested. And before designing belled piles, you should consult your soil report so that you are able to determine the permissible bearing pressure at various depths.

It wouldn't hurt to talk to your local piling contractors to make sure that what you are specifying is practical in your area. Pile types tend to be geographically influenced.

I think the phase "drilled piers/shafts" should place "piles" to better suit your need.

Thanks very much for your comments.

Bell piles! Thats the word I was looking for.

I would use "Belled Piers". Sounds better to me :)
