I've been told that you can install electric so far from the side of a finish spray booth where the opening is only 2' wide by 8' tall and so far from the open front of the finish spray booth but I cannot find the exact requirements in order to establish validity. Any one know if this is true or not and what OSHA standards explain this?

If OSHA applies, you're probably under the NEC and that will provide all of the spacing criteria.

NOT NEC but it shows how to apply the clearances you will find in the NEC.
