I am constructing a 1917 German Albatros DIII 3/4 size replica,hopefully under 1200 lbs all up.
I am at a loss to know the thickness of a backplate to carry the spinner.
The spinner has been constructed of fibreglass 1/16 thick reinforced to 3/32 at outer edge, is 24"dia. 12" deep sphere with a diaphragm about the middle.
I am considering using 1/8 sheet medium strength alloy 5083 H321 or 5251 H32 on to a hub size of 5 1/2" dia & possibly rivet a 1/8 doubler say 8" dia behind.
Revs say 2,700 airspeed say 100 kts.
I shall be most gratefull for any guidence on this problem.
