SpaceTraveler Peeves

I have a SpaceBall 5000 & LOVE it. My current job comes with a notebook... so I'm TRYING to get acclimated to a SpaceTraveler. I'm getting used to moving my models with it... but there's still a couple of issues I can't overcome:

Suction cup bottom... My desk is a particle board fake wood laminate & it don't suck-down to it worth a dang. Sure... I can modify my desk surface somewhat... but it's a SpaceTraveler... is should travel with me to varying desk surfaces... right?

Related to the first issue... I can't push a side button without placing a finger on the opposing side to steady it.

Everybody pile on here... maybe the next generation will improve.

Wish I could sympathize with you on that, but the best that my company will supply us with is the CADman, which I don't think they even make any more. The sad part is that we only got those through some promotional deal or another.

For $59 you can get a SpaceNavigator...it has a bit of weight to it, so it's less likely to move around...the "professional" version is $99.

I don't think there will be a next generation for that. Also, I think the problem is that it's a light version of the $59/$99 space widget I've got (which is why it's sliding around). I've not seen the Traveler type, but I can only figure less weight is what makes it the Traveler. Mine's quite heavy and only slides if I let too much dust accumulate on the desk surface. (Need lots of normal force to get the friction needed--aka "mass".)

Replace the suction cup with non-slip feet. Or maybe cut a profile out of a mouse pad and stick it to the base.

I got a Space Navigator recently. I tried it for a while but really didn't care for it. I have so many keyboard shortcuts that it was more trouble than it was worth to be switching my hand back and forth. 2 buttons just don't cut it. But anyway, in a similar vein to CBL's suggestion, what about some of that super high traction stuff that they sell by the cash (cash? Ain't that an anachronism!) registers at CompUSA, BestBuy, etc. to set your cell phone on in the car? When it's clean that stuff has an incredible COSF.

Yeah, try them in Google Earth--way cool!

I've got so many short-cuts, etc., too, that I don't use it much for SW. But if I've got to add lots of strange fillets or draft faces in a single step, it does come in handy. Otherwise, I'm faster with the keyboard anyway. (It wasn't expensive, so no big deal.)
