Solomon EII

Hi,

Anyone could help me, telling me how to calculate the Energy Intensity Index. I know this is a propietary method of Solomon (known as Solomon Index as well).

My question is, If I require to evaluate the EII of certain unit (in a petroleum refinery in this case), where do I get the information for the index (Process Unit Energy Standard)?, is feasible to do it by myself? or is always required to buy a software or contract the services of Solomon?

To my knowledge the EII methodology was developed by Solomon to enable comparaison of a process unit with an equivalent unit in the industry. The short answer to the question is that the standard equations are available by partcipating in the study. All members participating in the study have access to the results without identifying the specific refiner. Solomon provides the input file to calculate EII. It can be done by hand, knowing the specific equation for the unit. However, the purpose would be to have a reference point to compare to and as refiners energy consumptions improves, so does their unit EII. The industry unit number result would change slightly from one study year to another. You would have to have the results of the study to compare ones own performance. Hope ths helps.
