SolidWorks to Inventor?

Forgive me for posting a question which I'm sure has been answered in the past. For some reason, I'm unable to search this forum right now,

I have a customer using Inventor requesting a solid model of our product. I've taken my assembly, saved it as a part and sent it to him in .sat, .step, and .igs formats, but to no avail.

I'm working in SW 2005, sp2. I have no idea what Inventor he's working with. Additionally, there are some language barriers between us and I'm not quite sure that he even knows how to import into Inventor.

Any suggestions?

Most if not all mainstream MCAD packages can read in a *.STEP or *.IGES file. I would find out why he can't read those two formats. It maybe something they're doing that prevents Iventor from reading the file.

AN assy saved as a part will result in a multi-body part. How does STEP and IGES handle those? Are they "carried through" the translation?

Does IV recognise multi-body parts?

I must send files to a sister company everyday that uses Inventor.
I use the STEP file format, but they must be the 203 version and not the 214 version. They cannot open the 214. The IGES format usually does not translate as well but can be used for simple parts. As I am not on the receiving end, I do not know exactly how they import them or how it handles assemblies.

Inventor is a ACIS modeler... have you tried saving you assemblies out as an ACIS? There are multiple versions to save too.

The best output from SolidWorks is usually Parasolid, but till recently Inventor has not been able to import that format.
I have not tried this, but it may prove to be helpful.

He was able to read the STEP file I sent him after all... It seems likely that the problem was not the software Thanks, though for all the suggestions.
