I have searched the FAQ's with no luck, and the Forums found a hit but for SW 2003. We are using SW 2005, although we had this problem with SW 2004 before.

I have successfully updated the templates we use for SW, but there is one characteristic I cannot seem to get established in our template.

We print out SW drawings exclusively on 11" x 17" paper, but the print setup always defaults to 8 1/2" x 11", and I have not discovered how to save the template with this paper size setting.

Since this problem was existing in SW 2003 (in the forum I found on this site), I was hoping that it would be fixed in SW 2005.

Maybe it is fixed and I don't know how to use the fix. Anyway, I would appreciate any advice on how to save my template with 11" x 17" as the paper size.

Best regards,

debodine

Ok, I will setup the Windows printer for what we need. I was hoping not to do this because it will affect numerous other programs that pick up the Windows default. I guess I just assumed that SW would allow me to save a print setup just for SW in the template. Assumptions almost always bite back, don't they?

Thanks for the info!

All templates remember is your Document properties in SW.

You have Page setups in SW, but again must of that is simply pulled from Windows. You can setup document properties per file and not template, I believe.

Some printer interfaces have a "Document Setings" or "System Settings" option. You may be able to get what you want by utilising this.

Well, that answer was easy to find. Our IT administration has locked users out of the printer interface.

So I will continue to set the proper page setup at the beginning of each drawing.

Thanks to all for the inputs.

debodine,
Try this: Open your template. Click Ctrl P, in the dialog box click Page Setup… Now set your wanted settings. Complete the print by sending to printer. Now save your template. Create a new drawing with this new template. Ctrl P and print. Did this hold the settings?

debodine ... 8-1/2" x 11" printers are now "dirt" cheap & 11" x 17" printers aren't that expensive. See if your IT department can dedicate one for SW use.
