Hi,

I am new to SW as well as mvadcentral.com
I am trying to model an element for my school project. And I stumbled upon a problem...

I need a particular shape, namely a cube with rounded edges, but not using fillet. Edges need to be sphere like.
I managed to get the shape here:

However it is only a bunch of surfaces and I need solid elements... I managed to to this by drawing sketches with cross sections of my project, then using a tool for creating surfaces.

My second approach was this

I was trying to remove excess areas with a tool, that icon is in the picture, I don't know its English name, I have a localized version ;((
Unfortunately SW doesn't allow such operation it claims that if it removes the parts of cube it will generate intersection geometry. That is obviously complete nonsense...

My question is, how to model such shape - cube with sphere like rounded edges ?

Hello there,

I think the easiest way to do this is to model a sphere and cube as seperate bodies. In order to do so, deselect the option 'Merge result' within the Extrude FeatureManager (cube) or Revolve Extrude Feature Manager (sphere).

After you created the 2 seperate bodies, use the Combinetool from the Features Toolbar and use the Common-option. The result will be a cube with a spherical outer shape. Is this what you would like to achieve?

If you want to make this shape hollow, just use the Shell tool, enter a desired thickness and select every circular face at the part.
