Hi all, can anyone please tell me what is the basic difference between solid solution alloying and precipitation hardening? Which and these methods can be used for strengthening of various commonly used materials like low carbon steels, austenitic stainless steels and 2000 series of aluminium?

Thanx in advance

If it is a single phase material then it must be solution strengthened (autenitic stainless).
If there are multiple phases then it is either a precipitation mechanism or a transformation mechanism.
