Solid Element Shell Coating

Dear All,

What is the recommended 2D properties of the shell elements that coat tet10 solids. I have been using CQUAD8 but have read recently about using a membrane instead of the shell. I am using a thickness of .01 and was hoping someone could elaborate on this topic.
