Hi guys,

I'm having an error into Solid Edge V20 (update 5), I can't get it fixed and it literally stops me from using it. I run a Gateway Pentium 2.8 GHz, 1GB of RAM with XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 2.

Here is my problem:

As soon as I start to create or edit a part, Solid Edge seems to freeze when loading the environment and I get the following message:

Edge.exe Application Error
The instruction at "0x77ec2b3a" referenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program.

I joined the crash log report if someone wants to have a look.

The only way I can possibly make it works is by opening a DFT file first (and it works fine) and then switching into parts modeling, that way the environment seems to be loaded properly but even thought it freezes as soon as I click the extrusion button or any different functions.

Basically I cannot create or edit an existing part, I can barely work with DFT files.

Here is what I've tried to fix my problem:

I tried to contact my supplier which suggested me to uninstall it, clean the registry keys using a homemade program he provided me and re-install it.

I tried to clean my registry using CCleaner and TuneUp Utilities 2008.

I tried to google the error code but I didn't get any solutions that work for me.

Of course I've rebooted my computer almost a million times, updated Windows etc...

I'm not expecting to get the solution in the next hour but if someone has any idea that I didn't try or knows another forum where I should post this, please feel free to tell me!

Best regards

Nicolas

Hi Nikolas,
Just a few questions that may help pin down the problem ---
Could it be XP Media Centre ?
The UG web site recommends XP Pro SP2.
However, looking at the crashlog, it gives the OS as XP Pro, not Media Centre, so I'm not sure.
Did previous versions run OK ?
Is it just since the last service pack that this happens ?
Does it happen on any other workstations ?
If not, what is the difference between your workstation and the others ?

bc.
2.4GHz Core2 Quad, 4GB RAM,
Quadro FX4600.

I also had problems with update 5.

When opening assemblies created in V20 update 4, the variables table was empty. Not a good thing when you have a lot of table-driven variables that you want to edit!

I shut down SE and restarted it, to no effect; a reboot had no effect either. Since I didn't know what to do to solve the problem, I uninstalled SE, cleaned up the registry entries, reinstalled SE and did NOT apply Update 5. Everything went back to normal.

Hello guys,

XP Media center might be the cause, it has been installed on another machine here and it works well, this only happens on my workstation.

I always had bug on this computer with solid edge, I have not been in this company long enough to see running another version of SE besides the V20.

Talking about the updates of windows, my automatic update setting has always been turned on and service pack 2 was already installed when I first came here.

I've tried what Gemnoc suggested me, unfortunatly I still experience the same problem. I guess I'm gonna have to resigned myself to convince my boss that formatting the computer might be the only working solution.

Thank you for your advices guys, I let you know if I solve this weird problem.
