I'm trying to set up our drawing template in Solid Edge but can't seem to figure out a few things. Hoping someone here has gone through this and can lead me in the right direction.

I've set up a default template with text (part name, doc number, etc) that will update based on the properties specified in the property manager. In order for these text items to update it seems I am forced to use the callout feature.

Is there anyway to align the callout to the lines and boxes of my title block? Also, is there anyway to make the properties of the drawing automatically take the properties defined in a part file?

Maybe I'm gonig about this wrong... anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Go to callout, you'll see an option on the general tab for "property text" Icon has an A in it. This will let you call up model properties if used correctly. I think help will tell you more.

To align callouts - Tools, Dimensions, Line Up Text

Also certain entities, you can RMB, Properties and positiong them based on global coordinates.

Thanks for the reply Kenat.

I am currently using the "property text" icon. My problem with this is that, when setting up your template file I see no way to set it so that it automatically grabs the property from the part file the drawing is being made from.

For instance, if my part file has a property called "Description," I would like the drawing file to automatically see that and insert it into the title block. As it stands now I have to go in and manually retype that description into the drawing file's properties. Only a minor pain...

Also, the Line Up Text tool seems to only line up callouts to other callouts. Can I line up callouts to lines or textboxes?

All my lines and text boxes are positioned using the global coordinate system, but all my callouts that change with each drawing (PN, Description, etc) are only lined up as best as I could eyeball them.

I don't feel like I'm explaining my situation very well... let me know if I should elaborate on anything.

Textboxes don't line up (as far as I know V18). They are also a pain for other reasons, we've minimized use of them in favour of callouts as much as possible.

As regards the 'property text' take a good look at the help file and the different options in it.

On the property text you have several options at the top of the window.

From current draft file
Named reference
Incex reference
From graphic connection
From graphic connection to Part

Play with them and learn to understand them, I've never fully got my head around all of them but simplistically to call up text from the model we use "Index reference".

Hey thanks!

the reference %{....|R1} was exactly what I was looking for.

still can't seem to find how to align my callouts properly inside the title block boxes I crated though....

Thanks, that index reference really was exaclty what I needed.

sorry for the double post... couldn't figure out how to edit my last one.

is there a way to automatically display the scale of a drawing? I have a spot for this in the title block, but can't seem to figure out how to get it so that it updates based on the scale of the model.

Andy,

SE itself has no property text for this but this one
might help you:

DraftScale

can be changed from German to English

LineupText will only work with Callouts not with TextBoxes.

This one might help:

TextBox align

thanks Don,

unfortunately I'm on a gov. computer so no unapproved programs.

also, I don't have a problem lining up the text boxes... it just when I put a callout inside of a text box. If I had someway of showing a PDF of my drawing template I think you'd be able to see what I mean.

I know what you mean, we have 'text boxes' (just draft boxes not text box functionality) on our template which have callouts in them to varios properties.

Assuming some of your boxes are kind of grid shaped I sugest you line up the top left one manually then go from there using line up and maybe move/copy to get spacing the same as your lines.
