Solid Edge and SolidWorks conflict with icons...

Does someone know how to change back the Solid Edge assembly file icon to it's default icon after installing Solidworks?

Installing SolidWorks changed my .asm icon to the same as .sldasm icon and I think it's slowing down Solid Edge significantly (to the point of crashing) when trying to open assembly files.

I uninstalled SolidWorks and Edge worked great again, but unfortunately I need both.

Thanks!

Just a thought, but if Edge is your primary use then install Works then Edge.

I have had, in the past V17, V19 and works 2006 working without problems.

You could also try file association. Open control panel, folder options, navigate to the problem *.ASM extention file and select opens with or restore default (if default is Solide edge)

In windows explorer, go to tools/folder options/file types/ scroll down to ASM,click change and choose solid edge as the program you want to use to open this file. Click ok.

Thanks for advice... I'll have to try uninstalling Edge and reinstalling to make it default...

Even when .asm files are defaulted to open with Solid Edge the SolidWorks icon still shows up in windows explorer and I'm still having issues.

The icon thing bugged me too. We were on 18 and got told we had to have works as well (see my other threads;-)). Installing it jacked up the icons but I don't recall performance issues. IT claimed to have a fix but it didn't seem to work.

Upgraded to 19 and icons are fine.

KENAT, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...

Problem solved... without having to reinstall solid edge

If you go to add/remove programs and click "support information" under solid edge, you'll find the repair option there... and apparently it's different than trying to repair it from the Solid Edge disc. I clicked it let it run its thing and everything was back to normal with the normal icons and no crashing.

Reinstalling probably would work too, but this is much faster.
