Smooth out a surface

Morning all.

I have been given a scanned surface to cut my model too, however it's made up of multiple squares, so when i cut the surface I get the imprint of all the sqaures on the surface. What I'm after doing is smoothing the surface to eradicate these sqaures. The result can be seen on the attachment, plus adding to this I need to put in a rad where I have cut the surface, and because of the lines/sqaures its preventing me from putting one in, as it believes that the extent of the edge (I need to rad)is too small. Hope this makes sense, and someone can help me.

I've got a feeling some of the functions I don't have a license for will do the trick.

Please help if you can!!!!!

If it is mathematically possible for NX to do,, you can try ( NX7.5) Insert - Combine - Join Faces, but as said this is a complicated operation so if if the math don't match up there will be no change.

An other , maybe better, tip : The imported surface, run it thru the File- Export - heal Geometry before you use it for trimming. It will create a new part that probably enhances your chances of blending.

One can approximate a network of surfaces / patches by another surface in NX,
two methods, the older method : Insert - Combine - Quilt. Imagine dropping a wet towel over something, it will not match perfectly but within a tolerance. ( Sharp corners is a no-no for example)
The newer method : Edit - Surface - Refit face - Match to target. - Needs an existing surface that can be fitted ( approximated) onto a target.
( I would have tried the Refit face method.)

Tomas

Thanks for the reply, all but one of these methods I don't have a license for, however the join faces doesn't work, I tried that a while ago, and the first bit i select i get an error. The healing doesn't appear to do anything, it says it's simplified 15 geometries however it's not the surfaces!!!!

Think I'll be asking to upgrade this license!
