Hi.

I am after a hollow bar with about a 5mm bore and something around a 15mm OD.

Can anyone suggest who makes such a product as hollow bar stock?

Preferably in a higher grade than mild steel.

I am also looking for a steel rod in about 5mm that is not mild steel. Something like 4140 might work well.

I have run out of place to look .

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Regards, Iain.

If you can be flexible on the dimensions of the hollow bar, I would recommend the following:
-DOM Tubing
-1/4" Sch 80 Pipe
-3/8" Sch 80 Pipe

It is necessary to be careful with pipe, since there is a 12.5% tolerance on the wall thickness.

For the bar, the answer is much easier. Use drill rod of the appropriate alloy. If you do not have to weld it, O-1 is very versitatile and machines beautifully.

How long will the final product be?

How many do you want to make/buy per day? Per hour?

How will you produce them? (Cut from a roll? Fed individually onto a lathe or mill? Feed as long stock that needs to be replenished regularly into a machinery line? Put together into a larger assembly?

What kind of finish do you need?

What are your tolerances on surface finish? Diameter? Source length and final cut length?
