I have a weldment with 55 parts. It Is comprised of approx. 95% imported IGES part files from old Mechanical Desktop models. The assembly file is 58mb, and saves are long and can't functionally create PDF or plot the file.

Suggestions?

If the files are imported I assume that they are non-parametric, correct? If so, you might try running all the files through...

File -> Export -> Heal Geometry...

...which will create copies of the original files but with all topological 'imperfections' removed. This should help reduce the size of the part files and give you a cleaner set of files.

Super. I will try this.

Reloaded 50 models and ran Heal Geometry against.

Unfortunately, saves are taking 3 or 4 minutes on the weldment and PDF creation yields "Very Large Plot File Detected! Use PDF Export Program Instead" after long wait. PDF Export created a 23 mb file.

Any additional suggestions?

By the description it sounds as if the geometry is way more complex than it should have been. Iges imports often become that way.
Can you import using STEP instead ?
The geometry quality is far better. ( smaller files, quicker interaction.)

John mentioned the Heal Geometry, have you run that on all files ?

Tomas

Unfortunately, Mechanical Desktop 4.0 only offers IGES exports. And, yes, I ran Heal against all the parts in the weldment.
