Hope this is the correct thread for this question.

I have a welded sheet metal part. The part has two features at the bottom that will have a vent disc welded into place basically making this an inseparable assembly. Incoming QA cannot check the dimensions of the slots after the disc has been welded into place and think the dimensions should be reference dimensions or a note, or both. File attached.

Any thought would be appreciated.

The criteria is the function of the part, not the QC capabilities.

Will your QA guarantee that slots will work correctly ALL THE TIME if only checked before welding?

Of course not. That's why they want them to be reference dimensions. If the slots cannot be inspected after welding and they think the weld process will be detrimental to the function of the part then I think a new design is in order.

I guess that you have one drawing that shows both the final weldment and the various parts before they are welded.

For the person that is making these slots these dimensions cannot be reference for hopefully obvious reasons.

The most robust way is "one part, one drawing" with the weldment drawing having only dimensions necessary to fully define the weldment.

The cheap and easy was is "* Inspection not required on finished weldment" for dimensions that acceptably unimportant to you.
