All,

I am designing a 200mm ground slab for a large freezer warehouse operating at -30deg. I would like to eliminate the control joints by increasing reinforcement to 0.5% of a cross section. This normally works well for a standard dry warehouse but not sure if this is the best approach for the freezer as there will be much more contraction?

Comments are greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Regards
Karol

It depends on how much restraint there is to the concrete shrinkage. The slab will shorten, and if this is restrained, cracking will occur.

You also have to ensure that the material beneath the slab doesn't freeze...
