Skirt analysis ASME Section VIII Div. 2 1

Hi guys,

According to ASME BPVC Section VIII Div. 2, how would you classify the vessel thermal expansion effects on the skirt? Is it a primary loading applied on the skirt or a secondary loading?

It would be considered a displacement-controlled load.

(Note that there are no such things as primary and secondary loads, only primary and secondary stresses. Load-controlled loads can cause both primary and secondary stresses, while displacement-controlled loads can cause only secondary stresses - ignoring the peak stresses, of course.)
