I have a rack of solar panels at 15 deg to vertical, that will be rotating about the vertical axis and haven't really done any bearing selection in quite some time.

The weight of the rack and panels is about 4000 lbs.

The question is, what type of bearings should I use for this application and any idea on how to calculate teh size of bearing required.

Looking at 180 deg of rotation and slow moving rack. Already have the wind loads and structure calculated. Now it's just to make it move.

Appreciate any help.

Is there any reason why an iron peg and hole type hinge, as used by millions of garden gates, would not provide the long life, degree of weatherproofing (none), and low maintenance, that you are probably looking for?

Cheers

Thanks Guys,

Flat bearings might just do the trick.
