Hello everyone,
Hope someone can help, struggling with a 'simple' question as i'm new to FEA!
Using Abaqus to simulate a train collision with a rigid barrier. The train is made up of 20 coaches represented in Abaqus by single masses and linked together with Truss elements that can only take axial load.
The train is travelling at a velocity of 25m/sec.
Got plots showing the progressive collision of the coaches,
the displacement of the masses against the undeformed position, the axial stress variation with time, energy plots for total strain energy, recoverable strain energy and plastic energy dissipation. Finally a plot for velocity response, i.e a kink when plastic deformation sets.
In a theoretical model the links between the coaches would be represented by springs.
I would very much appreciate it if someone can explain the theory behind the collision??
Hope someone out there can help!
Thanks
