simulation - linear motor/limit mate 1

I've created a simple assy. I've given it a basic limit mate, and I'm trying to drive one of the parts with a linear motor. I calculate the sim and it gives me this message:

This assembly contains limit mates. These mates will be held in their current positions during Physical Simulation.

Then I run the sim and obviously nothing happens.

Do simulations not like limit mates?

You can't have a mate that controls it and then try to simulate it. The part must be able to move freely or the simulation will not work.

Instead of limit mates, you might try motion limiters. Look at Mike Wilson's site for examples:
