Simple Toolbox question

Hi guys,

I'm the PDMWorks admin but don't know squat about toolbox... doh!

Anyhow, when I try to drag a cap screw into my assembly it tells me that someone else is modifying it so I can't do it. Then I found if I right-click on the component in Toolbox and select "Insert into Assembly" it does insert it but in Read-Only status (which I thought all Toolbox parts were read-only). Now, when I try to save the assembly it keeps trying to save the "Read-Only" toolbox part to my local folder using the "Save-As" option, which I cancel.

So, can you direct me to the settings to tell SolidWorks to assume Toolbox is read-only and not lock up the process?

Under Toolbox-configure go to the settings tab and choose the following settings, Under files choose "create configurations" and under Writing to read only documents choose "Always change read only status..." Based on the error you're getting I assume you are using a shared toolbox on the network. Make sure that all files with exception of swbrowser.mdb are set to read only.

Would you also set the directories to Read-Only or only the files?

Normally when I'm setting it I just set the "solidworks data" folder to read only and apply to all sub folders and files then go and remove the read only status from the swbrowser.mdb. So it's ok for the directories to be read only or you can apply it directly to the files.

Good advice above. We also rename (or you could delete) the local toolbox folders on each pc so that users cannot inadvertently use them.

Ok, I've set the files and directories up this way but still get this error. Ugh!

So, I went into the SolidWorks Data\lang\English folder and watched it as I open/close SolidWorks with Toolbox turned on and I see a SWBrowser.ldb file being created when I start up SW and it goes away when I close it.

Does anyone else see that file being created/deleted as they open/close SW?
