Sheet Pile Hand Calc Methods

I typically deal with soldier beam type systems (cantilevered/anchored) and soil nails. A long time client has a small job where using sheet pile with cross struts makes the most sense. Have not done much sheet pile, accept for a cantilevered job now and again. For the anchored/strut condition, is the free earth support technique still considered an acceptable hand calculation method? Just curious.

Both the free earth and fixed earth methods are used. One gives a lighter but longer SSP. The other gives a heavier but shorter SSP.
