Hi all, Am looking for some good place to learn sheet metal design. I did not give much notice to this unless I noticed lots of companies demanding experience in sheet metal (not just design engg) I am curious to know what it involves.
Any pointers, websites elaborating designs reqts or your own knowledge and issues concerning sheet metal design would be tremendously helpful for me.
Thanks

Sheet metal can mean different things to different manufacturers. HVAC want to talk about duct work and very thin galvanized material. This could be produced low volume or high volume depending on the industries. Automotive want high volume automated galvanealed sheet metal for body parts or heavier sheet for brackets and frame components. Ag or industrial sheet metal usually means lower volume and heavier gauges steel. All of these industries produce parts by punching, blanking, shearing, and forming but with different types of tooling and equipment. Understanding of processes and tooling being used such as steel rule dies, air bending, bottoming dies, draw dies, progressive dies, etc.... is what they are looking for but within the industry the employer operates.
