just wanted to clarify my thoughts on something about volumetric response of soils in shear , when does contractive or dilative behavior happens ? i believe its when σ'v+Δσz > or < than the effective average stress σ'm=σ1+2σ3/3

It depends what side of the critical state line it is (i.e. you need to consider void ratio not just effective stress).
