Lets say I have a wall of plastic. On this wall I have bonded a piece of natural rubber. This rubber is going to see several hundred pounds of compression several hundred pounds of shear.

More importantly, this rubber is going to see an insignificant amount of peel.

The question is, what kind of adhesive schemes exist out there that have the highest ratio of (shear + tensile)/peel.

I have had a brief conversation with 3M about this, and am in the process of following up. Still it seems like a question for these forums.

To give the information you require you have to know a lot more information about the substrates and sizes, enviroment, and dimensions, etc. You can have the ideal adhesive but if it has a poor bond with one of the substrates or temperature problems physical charismatics of the adhesive are null and void.
First you have to find adhesives that will bond to both substrates and pick the one that best meets you requirements.
Some of the better adhesives for rubbers in general have been banned in the US because of the solvent.
Most adhesive failures are at the bond line.

Dow Chemical should be able to help you as they make any number of Polyurethane based adhesives. Insta Quick is just one of their products.
There are quite a number of different membrane adhesives on the market

I would also give Devan a called with your requirements. Their speciality is Butyl Compounds for sealers and adhesives.

A quick solution might be to give RelTek a call.
