Shading

I have seen a lot of AutoCAD drawings with areas shaded with very light colors (usually Architectural plan views). I would like to use this feature in my work, but if I use "hatch solid" the fill in is way to dark.
Can anyone give me instructions on the way to lightly shade areas.

If you are using Acad2000 use Named plot styles and adjust the screening percentage

 

Use color number 8 or 9...then use the "send to back" feature so that the hatch is printed below the other lines that you want shown.

Your method worked, but I want to use more colors than grey such as pastel green, pink ,blue, etc.
Do you or anyone know how I can get these very light shades for fill?

Not sure if it works on 2000, haven't tried it, but in older versions of autocad, if you have an HP-GL/2 printer, in Autocad you can use the command hpconfig and set screen percentages for any of the pen settings; works for monotone as well as colors
