Setting Piles into Rock

In a situation where HP piles are required to be driven through a few layers of soil that are not likely to offer a lot of friction resistance and then set onto bedrock. The rock is likely to slope so the piles will have Titus shoes. What setting/refusal criteria should be used? How should the hammer size be established?

It sounds to me like you need to do a WEAP analysis. By entering the hammer information, its fuel setting, hammer cushion information, and the soil and rock layers and properties, you can get an idea of the pile capacity and the driving stresses in the pile. If the capacity and/or stresses are not acceptable, you can change to a different pile hammer and re-run the analysis.
