From the BBC,

"Eight people have died and at least 49 are injured after a wall collapsed at a football stadium in Senegal.

It happened at Demba Diop stadium in the capital, Dakar, at the end of the League Cup final between Stade de Mbour and Union Sportive Ouakam."

I was going to say was it from dynamic loading from the crowd running to one side but it wouldn't be quick enough would it..

Could be any amount of reasons for collapse in this situation...connections failing etc.

Sad news to go to a football game and not come home that night....

Wimpy rebar, at best. Looks more like antenna coax than the rebar used elsewhere in the world. If nothing else, the lack of protruding rebar from the standing remains of the wall indicate that the wall was never built to survive much lateral load.
