I'm looking for methods to include the seismic overturning moments (or mass) from a component (specifically a storage bin on 8 legs). The bin is on an elevated framing level of a structure that requires a response spectrum analysis.

I can enter the "dead" loads that are converted to mass at the support locations but I am not sure as to how to address the fact that the bin c.g. is above the support floor. Any suggestions?

Thanks

What I have done in the past is add a member from the support floor to the CG that has a very high stiffness. Then apply a nodal load at the CG node.

Hope this helps.
