Hi,

Do you calculate Extreme Fiber Elongation for a shell that made of pipe materials, such as SA-106 Gr. B, per UG-79? I do not think the "Tube and Pipe Bends" on the Table UG-79-1 applies here.

Any opinion is highly appreciated.

Thank you!

No, UG-79 is very clear cylinders fabricated from plate versus tube and pipe bends.

Metengr,

Thanks for you reply. It's a 8" straight pipe shell and the formula for "pipe and tube bends" still applies here?

Yes, provided the 8" pipe used for the shell has not be re-shaped. You are simply using pipe to be used as a shell for design.

Metengr,

Thank you. Btw, no, the shop just cut out the pipe and machines the bevels.
