Section Assignments

I am new to abaqus, so pardon me if this is super trivial.

I have a sphere with a flat surface on bottom and top with three datum plane partitions

I've created a set of wires I would like to assign a section. On the top and bottom surface I have three wires that I cannot select.

Also I have another set of wires, and I cannot select the wires that lie in the datum plane.

Any suggestions?
