Sealed board-to-board interconnect system? 1

What I would ideally like is a connector system that is sealed (IP65 or better) and has mating panel mount, through hole headers. Probably pushing my luck here (as if I haven't already), but I'd really like it if they are both vertical with respect to the PCB. Plenty of stuff for wire-to-board applications, and that is my distant second choice, but I'm really holding out for board-to-board. Oh, and 20-40 terminals.

Any suggestions welcome... well, except for the online equivalent of throwing rotten tomatoes, that is.

It has been a while since I have looked for connectors and someone else may have a more direct solution. Have you looked at Samtec? I had been in Eng for 9 years before I heard of them, which is why I am asking what may be a dumb question. They have one of the most elaborate collection of connectors that I have ever seen.

I don't believe you will find those B2B connectors you're looking for because most designers would avoid such hassles. Why not put all the boards in one enclosure and then use standard waterproof field connections?

Noway2 - Never heard of Samtec, so thanks that tip. It doesn't look like they have exactly what I am looking for now but, man, you weren't kidding about their selection.

itsmoked - This connector is for low voltage (24V max) i/o connections on a piece of industrial equipment that, ideally, can survive washdown duty (e.g. - IP54 minimum). What I really want here is a waterproof, or at least splashproof, version of the Phoenix Contact "Combicon" system - a sealed, panel mount header with through hole pins that mates to a plug with spring or screw wire-clamp terminals. Ie - a sealed version of this:

Yes, I realize that this doesn't make a lot of sense, which is why I didn't ask for such. Rather, I figured that someone else at some point has needed to make what amounts to a waterproof "dongle", and I could use that sort of sealed B2B interconnect system to adapt to a board-mount Phoenix connector. A bit kludgy, perhaps, but worth investigating.

My final options, should nothing come of this post, is to use a sealed wire-to-board interconnect system that either terminates in a "breakout box" with spring/screw terminals, or else just in wire pigtails that can be spliced, etc., by the end=user.

You can check these guys:
Also go to Digikey and look at:

Pay particular attention to the water proof D-sub bulkhead connectors. They've been around for decades and may fit your needs.

The most common waterproof application is automotive. JAE makes a lot of those. But most are cable to cable not bulkhead. They are generally oval with a locking lever that you depress with your finger while separating. In the above search they are the 'rectangular' connectors.

Well, I've totally given up on the Phoenix connector type solution and am going to use a proper sealed automotive connector with pigtails that go to a terminal block. I'm not too thrilled about this, but it seems to be the only practical solution here.

Specifically, I'm going with this Tyco AMPSEAL system:

...with short wire pigtails on the plug that the customer can terminate to a barrier strip, butt splices, etc.
