Hi everyone,
As it seems to be a bit quiet on the forum, here's a question.
Is it possible to set the status of a draft file to 'Released', but leave the attached models status as they are ?
This would enable us to lock the drawings against modification, but keep us out of the loop of constantly changing model revisions, which can become a bit of a pain.
(We don't have any form of document management/pdm system)

Beachcomber,

Yes, it is possible and something I have discussed a few times with other users and GTAC support. Hopefully my memory is correct:

1. Get your Solid Edge CD and look for a program called "seadmin".

2. Copy this file to a folder on your local drive (or network drive) and share it.

3. Go to your Solid Edge folder (the program itself) and under the program folder, find a file called options.xml

4. Copy this file to the shared folder you created.

5. Run the SE admin program and open the options.xml file in the shared folder.

6. There is an option in the long list called "allow unreleased links" set this option to 1.

7. Save the file

8. Run Solid Edge and go into option. In the file locations tab, set the path to SEadmin to your shared folder.

9. Close Solid Edge and restart it. Take a look at the properties for a draft file and see if it lets you set the status of the draft file to released.

This situation arose when SE came out with Insight. I've explained to GTAC several times that having to release and then later revise an entire string of models is unnecessary when you may need to revise only a draft file to deal with something as simple as a typo on the drawing. Hopefully they'll make a change. On versions prior to 15, there was a little file that accomplished the steps I described but for some reason it doesn't work now. Maybe they'll publish a new file.

I once got a little program called "Status Changer" from the UGS newsgroup, with it you can change back files that have been released to available. But it can also work in the other way.

So with this program you will be able to change any files to the status you want without having to place all the related files to the same status required by SE

If you need it just tell me.

Beachcomber,

I made a mistake in my instructions.

copy the SEadmin file to your Solid Edge program folder. It doesn't need to be in the shared folder - just the options.xml file

Thanks all,
I'll try and get something organised here to introduce a bit of control on the system.
I'm not hopefull though - no-one seems interested in organising anything, but everyone complains how poorly controlled the system is !.

Thanks again
