Hi,fiends

Currently we receive from a provider a screw pump ALLWEILER manufacturing lubrication associated with a pump of the coker. The pump is attached directly to the shaft of the pump of the coker. The problem is that pump we receive works in the opposite direction CW when really should operate in CCW direction.

Can I install this pump by turning in the opposite direction with the solution exchange the suction and discharge lines?

There any problems in pressure or discharge by turning in the opposite direction?

Their recommendation will be well received

Thanks...

If you did, you would have to note that the suction and discharge connections would be opposite to what you expected, and there may also be ramifications to the mechanical seal and rotor balance.

TenPenny, can I install lubrication pump and be sure to flow and reliable pressure?

You should contact the pump manufacturer for this question. In my experience, most rotary PD pumps can be spun in reverse and will pump just fine. If you decide to do this, document the change very well. If someone accidentally puts the lines back in the original configuration, the suction piping could be overpressured to failure.

Shaft driven pumps like this may have a suction check valve or foot valve so that the pump retains prime. The suction line does not have PSV protection. If you run the pump in reverse, you could burst the suction line. We had this happen once when a pump was accidentally puchased for the incorrect rotation.
