Hi,

I am a mechanical engineer dipping my toe into the big world of geotechnical engineering.

I need to test the lateral holding power of a pile driven in to medium-hard rock; I would like to test this at reduced (say 1/4) scale if possible - reading around the literature it looks like it is possible but I haven't got any explicit methods or scaling rules yet. Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

I don't expect it will be possible to use a centrifuge, but using different material properties to maintain similarity is possible.

Thanks!
