Hi,

I am currently working on machining model on abaqus/explicit. However I was unsure of how to apply the contact between the tool and the workpiece. I have tried the surface-to-surface contact with 0.2 friction coefficient. Then I did get this warning message,

The elements in element set WarnElemFailElemInContact are part of a deformable surface that is referenced by a *CONTACT PAIR option in addition to having material properties that allow the element to fail. For elements that can fail, contact should be defined using the *CONTACT option.

Also the result obtained from abaqus seems to be very distorted in the workpiece between the contact area. I have also attached a result for the equivalent plastic strain with this post.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve these problems. Please let me know if you need any furthur details.

Thank you
