Okay, modeling a rope is no big deal, spirals, helix, whatever. Whatever method I use seems to drain the memory out of the machine (especially with a 12 grain rope) - is there a 'texture' out there that I could use, and show it on the exterior of my extruded cylindrical face.

Or what of the many textures does someone else use to denote rope. The rope's blue, by the way, maybe I should just color the face blue.

If you need it to look like rope, you can check out this link that I have included and D/L the one you like. Apply it to the face of your cylinder and scale accordingly in photoshop. Hope this is the answer you were looking for.
