Roof to Angle Connections in API 650

Can the details shown in Appendix 'F' Figure F-2 (specifically Detail 'A') be used as alternate roof to shell/angle connections to the roof to shell joints shown in Section 3, Figure 3-3A 'Typical Roof and Bottom Joints'?

The details affect frangibility, which is defined somewhere there in Section 3. That, and general cost and ease of construction, are the only reasons I know of not to use the App. F details. The App. F details normally wouldn't be considered as prohibited in a non-App. F tank, just not required.
