I was wondering what constitutes the main reason we use the letters Rn for tension and Pn for compression in AISC J4.1 - 4. I was checking on this detail in Chapter B (B3.3) but I do not see anything that clarifies the reason why we use a different letter. What is the difference between φPn and φRn? Could someone explain the logic behind that please?
Thanks
