In DNV-RP-F204, Section 4.1.3 stated
"For screening purposes a 1-year velocity with associated velocity profile is considered conservative."
Does this means that for riser VIV screening, only 1 year return period environmental data needed to applied even for operating condition?
I understand for subsea pipeline VIV screening, 100 year return period environmental data is applied as per DNV-RP-F105 for operating condition.
Can somebody explain to me the logical behind this 1yr RP approach in riser VIV screening?
