Hi,

I have a case that the metal rod being bent to L shape and continue to pull it.

There is no heat treatment and there should be residual stress after bending into L shape. If I run two analysis separately, 1. plastic deformation to get the total strain;2. max stress/ strain when the L hook being pull, then sum up the total strain for assessment?

The approach is generally correct. But since you are applying a tensile force in the last step it is natural that you will calculate stress. This stress needs to be superimposed on the residual stresses with due regard to sign, i.e. tensile/compressive.

Engineers, think what we have done to the environment !
