Hi,

What is the difference between total chlorine, free chlorine, and residual chlorine? because the residual chlorine before enter the RO unit should be 0 ppm.

Thanks.

Total chlorine is the sum of free chlorine and combined chlorine, also known as chloramine(s). Free chlorine and total chlorine are measurable....combined chlorine is the difference between the two.

Residual chlorine is usually expressed as the remaining free chlorine, or in some cases as total chlorine, present after initial introduction of chlorine to the system.

As I'm sure you are aware, residual chlorine can be reduced to zero concentration by application of such materials as sodium thiosulfate, sodium sulfite, etc. which reduce chlorine to the chloride state.
