Hello again.
I have a question but not sure if it pertains to AWS D1.1. How many times can you carbon arc gouge welds before actually have to replace the steel where repairs are being made. Now is there a code or spec. I can look at to help with guiding me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

"You can only repair it twice" is an old wives tale. That is why you cannot find that limitation in D1.1. The base metal is steel, the filler metal is steel, the air arc CAC removes steel, the welder replaces steel. Your weld-induced distortion increases, but it is all still steel. Limiting repair attempts needs to be done based on distortion, not counting on your fingers [assumes that the old HAZ has been removed, or kept well away from during each repair attempt].
